November is an important month for Belgium to commemorate the end of World War I. Esta bandera nacional, tejida con fuerza (negra), sabiduría (oro) y sangre (roja), es como un microcosmos de este pequeño país de Europa occidental templado por la guerra: la oscuridad finalmente será iluminada por la fe, y la paz regada con sangre finalmente florecerá con esperanza. En el escaparate de una librería de Bruselas, un marcapáginas metálico con forma de amapola provoca un acalorado debate. El diseñador hizo los pétalos en un degradado de dorado y carmesí, la bandera de los Estados Unidos, y los tallos y las hojas están grabados con un fragmento de la Declaración de Armisticio de 1918.
