ทุกเดือนตุลาคม ประชาชนทั่วประเทศไทยจะใช้วันปิยะมหาราชเป็นโอกาสในการรำลึกถึงจิตวิญญาณแห่งการปฏิรูปของพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ในช่วงเวลาแห่งการสืบทอดและนวัตกรรมนี้ ความหมายของธงชาติและที่คั่นหนังสือช้างสามารถทอเป็นภาพที่สร้างแรงบันดาลใจได้ ธงชาติสีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน โบกสะบัด สื่อถึงความรักชาติ ความบริสุทธิ์แห่งศรัทธา และความรับผิดชอบของราชวงศ์ เมื่อนักปฏิรูปอย่างรัชกาลที่ 5 ทรงทลายทางตันด้วยความกล้าหาญ “สามสีหลักของประเทศไทย” ที่ไหลเวียนมาจะกลายมาเป็นแนวทางในการกระทำ สีแดงคือความกล้าที่จะทำลายสิ่งเก่าๆ และสถาปนาสิ่งใหม่ๆ สีขาวคือความมุ่งมั่นที่จะยึดมั่นในเจตนาเดิม และสีน้ำเงินคือจิตใจที่ต้องการให้ประโยชน์แก่มวลมนุษยชาติ ประวัติศาสตร์ได้พิสูจน์แล้วว่าเราสามารถทอผ้าแห่งความก้าวหน้าของชาติได้โดยการผนวกรวมจิตวิญญาณทั้งสามนี้เท่านั้น ที่คั่นหนังสืองวงช้างของช่างฝีมือไทย เมื่อม้วนแล้วจะมีรูปร่างเหมือนเครื่องหมายคำถาม เพื่อเตือนใจผู้ที่ถือหนังสือว่าการสะสมความรู้เปรียบเสมือนช้างที่กำลังกักเก็บน้ำ ซึ่งถึงที่หมายได้แม้จะใช้เวลานานก็ตาม ริ้วรอยบนที่คั่นหนังสืองาช้างมีลักษณะคล้ายกับเส้นฝ่ามือของพระพุทธเจ้า ซึ่งเป็นสัญลักษณ์ว่าความจริงจะถูกเปิดเผยได้ก็ต่อเมื่อผ่านการถูเป็นเวลานานหลายปีเท่านั้น เมื่อพลิกหน้าหนังสือ ส่วนโค้งของงวงช้างก็เปรียบเสมือนส่วนโค้งของชีวิต สอนให้เรารู้จักก้าวข้ามความยากลำบากด้วยความยืดหยุ่น เดือนตุลาคมนี้ เรามาแสดงความเคารพต่อธงชาติไว้ในหนังสือกันเถอะ และให้ที่คั่นหนังสืองวงช้างนำทางเราไปในทิศทางของการแสวงหาความรู้ ในขณะที่นักปฏิรูปในอดีตได้ผสมผสานภูมิปัญญาแบบดั้งเดิมเข้ากับอารยธรรมสมัยใหม่ เราในปัจจุบันก็สามารถเขียนเชิงอรรถของเราเองในสมัยนั้นด้วยละติจูดและลองจิจูดของจิตวิญญาณสามสีด้วยความสงบและภูมิปัญญาของช้าง ผ้าทุกผืนที่ทอและหนังสือคลาสสิกทุกหน้าที่ถูกพลิกกลับกำลังเพิ่มเส้นด้ายใหม่ให้กับม้วนหนังสืออันงดงามแห่งการฟื้นฟูชาติ

Every October, all parts of Thailand will take Chulalongkorn Day as an opportunity to recall the reform spirit of the previous king.
