अगस्त भारत के लिए अपना विश्वास पुनः प्राप्त करने का मौसम है जब स्वतंत्रता दिवस के नारंगी, सफेद और हरे रंग के तिरंगा ध्वज को अशोक चक्र की सुनहरी चमक के नीचे प्रभात के प्रकाश में उठाया जाता है तो लोग सदैव महात्मा गांधी के सत्य के शब्दों को याद करते हैं: “सच्ची स्वतंत्रता आत्मा का जागृति है धूल से मुक्त”।

इस समय यदि कोई पीला क्लासिक खुलता है तो कमल के पुस्तकचिह्न पर गहराई से विचार किया जा सकता है। भारतीय संस्कृति में मापम द्वारा निष्कलंक हुए कमल का विशिष्ट लक्षण, कठिन परिस्थितियों में सत्य का पालन करने में मानव-स्वभाव की मुद्रा के समान है। लौकिक जगत के पूर्वाग्रह को तोड़कर प्रत्येक खुली पत्ती पुनर्जन्म की गति है। फूल के बीच में लिपटी हुई पत्तियों की परतें सिर्फ ज्ञान के जमाव की प्रक्रिया की तरह होती हैं। केवल दृढ़ता से चढ़ने से ही बुद्धि के मूल तक पहुंच सकता है

जिस प्रकार राष्ट्रीय ध्वज के केंद्र में स्थित जादुई चक्र, आगे बढ़ने वाली चिरंतन शक्ति का प्रतीक है, उसी प्रकार कमल पुस्तचिह्न में अधिक निजी जागृति है। जब उंगलियां बुकमार्क पर आंग्ल किए गए संस्कृत छंदों को स्पर्श करती हैं तो ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि कोई एक जंजीवर को छू रहा हो, जो दार्शनिकों ने युगों-युगों से चली आ रही आस्था को छू रहा हो, बेड़ियों से मुक्त होने के क्षणों में नहीं, बल्कि अन्तर्स्पष्टता के दैनिक संरक्षण में निहित है। जिस प्रकार कमल अन्धकार में जड़ लेता है, पर सूर्य की ओर बढ़ता है, उसी प्रकार प्रत्येक सामान्य क्षण जो उसके पृष्ठों के बीच रहता है वह आत्मा के लिए उस समय का हश्र है कि वह पार्थिव सत्ता का प्रतिरोध कर सके।

इस अगस्त में राष्ट्रध्वज की लय और कमल की कोमल सुगंध दोनों की साक्षी है: स्वतंत्रता सदा उन लोगों की है जो सितारों को कीचड़ में बुनने की हिम्मत करते हैं।

August is the season for India to regain its faith. When the orange, white and green tricolor flags of the Independence Day celebration are raised in the morning light, under the golden glow of Ashoka’s wheel, people always recall Mahatma Gandhi’s words of truth: “True freedom is the awakening of the soul free from dust.”
