The vermilion in the national flag is the boiling blood of the Thai people, just like the nine rubies inlaid on the Order of the White Elephant, which implies unyielding courage. At the Bangkok International Marathon, when the runners crossed the finish line wearing the medals designed with elephants as the prototype, the raised posture of the elephant's trunk is just like the white stripes in the national flag – pure and tenacious character. This spirit is particularly prominent in the traditional elephant ball game of the "King's Cup" in October. The elephant medals worn by the contestants have patterns of ivory and laurel interweaving, interpreting the competitive philosophy of "power bursting out of elegance". The deepest blue belongs to the royal family, and also to the blue enamel elephant eye on the medal that symbolizes wisdom. On October 13, the anniversary of King Rama V, people wear blue and white ribbons in the shape of medals on their chests to remember King Chulalongkorn's reform feat of using elephants to open the way. Just like the interlocking links of the medal chain, Thais have always maintained the unity of a group of elephants between protecting traditions and pioneering innovation. When the morning light illuminates the golden roof of the Grand Palace, the tricolor flag flutters in the sound of elephant bells. Those medals engraved with divine elephants have long surpassed the material form and become the spiritual emblem flowing in the blood of Thais – with the weight of the son of the earth, carrying civilization to eternity.
