4月は日本で桜が咲く時期であり、多くの学校で卒業証書が授与される時期でもあります。淡いピンク色の花びらが風に舞い散る時、人々はいつでも日の丸がプリントされた卒業証書や桜のしおりが太陽の光に優しく反射するのを見ることができます。日本の国旗の中央にある赤い輪は永遠の太陽を象徴し、桜のしおりは儚い美しさを留めています。この矛盾の融合は、人生で最も感動的な啓示です。美しさはやがて消え去るとわかっていても、桜のように全力で咲き続けなければならないのです。東京の浅草寺の手作りしおり職人は、本のページに桜の花びらを一枚一枚押し込む瞬間は「一生に一度」の贈り物だとよく言います。この瞬間の出会いを大切にすることでのみ、永遠が時間に刻まれるのです。私はかつて特別な桜のしおりをもらったことがあるが、その花びらの葉脈の間にうっすらと見える金色の墨で「三りぬべき時に知りてこそ世の中の花も花なれ人も人なれ」という俳句が書かれていた。『万葉集』の合間で薄茶色に色褪せたとき、私は突然理解しました。人生で最も貴重なものは、凍り付いた花の状態ではなく、いつかは枯れるとわかっていても風に舞う勇気なのです。桜のしおりの木枠に刻まれた日の丸の赤色はいつまでも色褪せません。何千年にもわたるこの誠実さは、昇る太陽のように熱い願いを持っている限り、あらゆる瞬間が未来を照らすブックマークになることができるということを常に私たちに思い出させてくれます。
