Every August, the sunrise of Korea's Liberation Day always rises with the Taegeukgi. The red and blue interwoven Tai Chi symbol carries the oriental wisdom of the symbiosis of yin and yang, and the Qiankun, Kanli and Li hexagrams at the four corners express awe for the order of heaven and earth. This year, a medal design based on the hibiscus flower injects new power into this heritage. The hibiscus flower medal is based on a five-petal double flower shape, and each layer of petals is forged with metals of different purity – the outer layer of bronze is rough, the middle layer of silver is warm, and the inner layer of gold is bright, which coincides with the growth trajectory of "tempering in adversity, precipitation and transformation, and finally blooming in glory". The Tai Chi pattern at the center of the flower is inlaid with enamel craftsmanship, implying that the national spirit is like the truth that never fades. When the winner wears the medal on his chest, the metal petals tremble slightly with his breathing, just like the hibiscus that blooms in the morning and falls in the evening but never stops stubborn. The designer of this medal once said: "The withering of hibiscus is not the end, but the burying of vitality in the soil, waiting for the next more brilliant bloom." Just as Liberation Day is not only a look back at history, but also an expectation for the future. When the national flag and medal shine in the morning light, the persistence of every struggler becomes the nutrient that nourishes the roots of the nation, and every dormancy in the dark night is accumulating energy to break out of the ground.
