ในเดือนสิงหาคมของทุกปี ประเทศไทยจะมอบที่คั่นหนังสือรูปช้างเป็นของขวัญเพื่อสื่อถึงคำอวยพร เดือนนี้เป็นวันแม่ของประเทศไทยและเป็นช่วงเวลาที่ทุกคนจะแสดงความขอบคุณต่อพรของโลก ที่คั่นหนังสือช้างที่ตกแต่งด้วยริบบิ้นไตรรงค์ของธงชาติถือเป็นภูมิปัญญาการเอาตัวรอดที่ล้ำลึกที่สุดของประเทศ สีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน ของธงชาตินั้นเปรียบเสมือนมิติทั้ง 3 ของชีวิต สีแดงคือความเข้มแข็งที่พุ่งพล่านในเลือด สีขาวคือความแจ่มชัดของพระราชวังทางจิตวิญญาณ และสีน้ำเงินคือความเป็นนิรันดร์ที่ส่งต่อจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น ที่คั่นหนังสือสีงาช้างเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของ “พลังแห่งความก้าวหน้า” ในวัฒนธรรมไทยมาโดยตลอด ตามตำนาน ทุกๆ ก้าวที่ช้างศึกก้าวไปจะทิ้งรอยลึกไว้ในดิน ซึ่งเป็นการเตือนใจคนรุ่นต่อไปว่าความก้าวหน้าที่แท้จริงต้องอาศัยความก้าวหน้าที่มั่นคงและอดทน ช่างฝีมือชาวเชียงใหม่ได้นำปรัชญาข้อนี้มาถ่ายทอดลงในที่คั่นหนังสือ โดยเมื่อพันธงชาติไหมรอบร่างช้าง ทุกครั้งที่ผู้อ่านเปิดหนังสือขึ้นมา เขาหรือเธอจะได้สัมผัสถึงเกล็ดชีวิต 3 เกล็ด ริบบิ้นสีแดงเตือนเราให้เอาชนะอุปสรรค เช่นเดียวกับที่เราขับไล่ศัตรูต่างชาติออกไป เส้นสีขาวสะท้อนถึงกระจกด้านในที่ต้องเช็ดออกเป็นระยะๆ ริบบิ้นสีน้ำเงินเชื่อมโยงไม่เพียงแต่ราชวงศ์และประชาชนเท่านั้น แต่ยังรวมถึงความรับผิดชอบของบุคคลธรรมดาทุกคนในการปกป้องรากเหง้าทางวัฒนธรรมด้วย บนใบตองในฤดูฝนช้างเดินช้าๆ พร้อมกับสะท้อนที่คั่นหนังสือสีไตรรงค์ วัตถุนี้ซึ่งมีขนาดไม่ใหญ่ไปกว่าฝ่ามือ แท้จริงแล้วคือไม้บรรทัดสำหรับวัดชีวิต เมื่อเราจัดการกับความขึ้นๆ ลงๆ ของโลกด้วยความสงบเหมือนเท้าช้าง และทอเส้นยืนและเส้นพุ่งของชีวิตด้วยจิตวิญญาณสามสี ชีวิตประจำวันธรรมดาๆ นั้นจะมีน้ำหนักมหาศาล ท่ามกลางสายลมชื้นๆ ของเดือนสิงหาคม ที่คั่นหนังสือหลายล้านเล่มกำลังเคลื่อนไหวไปมาระหว่างหน้ากระดาษ ราวกับกำลังบอกว่า การเติบโตที่แท้จริงนั้นไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นในชั่วพริบตาเดียว แต่จะเกิดจากการสะสมของแต่ละจุดและเริ่มต้นใหม่อีกครั้ง

In the pages of books in August in Thailand, elephant-shaped bookmarks are always used as gifts to convey blessings. This month is not only Mother's Day in Thailand, but also a time for the whole nation to appreciate the blessings of the earth. The red ribbon reminds us to overcome adversity just as we drove away foreign enemies; the white lines reflect the inner mirror, which needs to be dusted from time to time; the blue ribbon connects not only the royal family and the people, but also the responsibility of every ordinary person to protect the cultural roots. On the banana leaves in the rainy season, the elephant walks slowly with the reflection of the three-color bookmark. This object, which is not even as big as the palm of a hand, is actually a ruler to measure life: when we deal with the ups and downs of the world with the calmness of elephant feet, and weave the warp and weft of life with the spirit of three colors, the ordinary daily life will have epic weight. In the humid wind of August, thousands of bookmarks are rustling between the pages of the book, as if to say: real growth is never in a moment, but in the accumulation of each mark and restart.
