เนื่องในวันจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ตรงกับเดือนตุลาคม ประชาชนชาวไทยจะร่วมกันแสดงความเคารพต่อผู้บุกเบิกการปฏิรูปการแต่งกายแบบดั้งเดิม เมื่อชุดสูทสีน้ำเงินเข้มพบกับคลิปเนคไทแบบไทยที่ปักด้วยด้ายสีทอง เครื่องประดับโลหะที่แกะสลักเป็นรูปช้างโตเท็มก็แบกรับน้ำหนักของอารยธรรมเก่าแก่นับพันปีไว้ได้อย่างเงียบๆ แถบสีแดง ขาว น้ำเงินของธงชาติไทย เปรียบเสมือนประกายแวววาวที่พลิ้วไหวบนกิ๊บติดเน็คไทช้าง สีแดงคือความร้อนของแผ่นดินที่หล่อเลี้ยงสรรพสิ่ง สีขาวคือความบริสุทธิ์ของศาสนาที่ซึมซาบเข้าสู่จิตวิญญาณ และสีน้ำเงินคือความเคร่งขรึมของราชวงศ์ที่ปกป้องขุนเขาและสายน้ำ ช้างที่เดินโดยเชิดหัวขึ้นสูงไม่เพียงแต่เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของชีวิตที่ไม่มีวันสิ้นสุดในป่าฝนในเอเชียใต้เท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของ “ชาติบนหลังช้าง” ในใจของคนไทยอีกด้วย โดยหลังที่หนาของช้างช่วยพยุงทหารในสนามรบและยังช่วยขนอิฐและหินสำหรับสร้างวัดพุทธอีกด้วย คลิปเนคไทนี้จับภาพโครงร่างของภูเขาและแม่น้ำในพื้นที่เล็กๆ ได้ เมื่อคนทำงานสวมใส่ เสียงเสียดสีระหว่างโลหะกับเสื้อผ้าเปรียบเสมือนเสียงระฆังช้างสมัยโบราณ ซึ่งเตือนใจผู้สร้างสังคมยุคใหม่ว่า ความแข็งแกร่งที่แท้จริงไม่ได้อยู่ที่ขอบของการประชาสัมพันธ์ แต่คือลักษณะนิสัยที่สงบและเด็ดเดี่ยวเหมือนช้าง เช่นเดียวกับที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงส่งเสริมการปฏิรูป โดยยังคงรักษาแก่นแท้ของประเพณีและเปิดรับภูมิปัญญาของยุคสมัย ผู้สวมใส่ทุกคนก็ควรจะเป็นผู้สืบทอดยีนแห่งอารยธรรม เมื่อปลายนิ้วของคุณสัมผัสลวดลายช้างสามมิติบนปลอกคอ เสมือนคุณกำลังสัมผัสสายหมอกยามเช้าและกลิ่นหอมของข้าวริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา เครื่องประดับโลหะชิ้นนี้ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นเครื่องประดับที่แสดงถึงเอกลักษณ์เท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นอนุสรณ์ขนาดเล็กของเปลวไฟแห่งอารยธรรมอีกด้วย ซึ่งเตือนให้เราตระหนักว่าความรุ่งโรจน์ที่แท้จริงนั้นอยู่ที่การปล่อยให้ประเพณียังคงเติบโตต่อไปในดินแดนยุคใหม่

Just like when Rama V promoted reform, he preserved the essence of tradition while embracing the wisdom of the times. Every wearer should be the inheritor of the genes of civilization. When the fingertips touch the three-dimensional elephant pattern on the collar, it seems to touch the morning mist and rice fragrance on the Chao Phraya River.
