เดือนตุลาคมเป็น “เดือนวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ” ของประเทศไทย บนท้องถนนที่มีธงไตรรงค์โบกสะบัด หัวเข็มขัดรูปช้างสะท้อนแสงแวววาวอันอบอุ่นในแสงแดด เครื่องประดับที่ดูเหมือนธรรมดาชิ้นนี้ จริงๆ แล้วเป็นเครื่องรางของขลังประจำชาติไทยขนาดย่อม สีแดง ขาว น้ำเงิน ของธงชาติไทย ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นตัวแทนของแผ่นดิน ความศรัทธา และราชวงศ์เท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นคำมั่นสัญญาชั่วนิรันดร์ของการอุทิศตน ความบริสุทธิ์ และความรับผิดชอบอีกด้วย ฉันใดหัวเข็มขัดช้างก็ทำให้เสื้อผ้าที่กระจัดกระจายกลายเป็นหนึ่งเดียวกัน ฉันนั้นคนไทยทุกคนก็คือเส้นด้ายที่ทอเส้นยืนและเส้นพุ่งของประเทศ ตามตำนาน นักรบในสมัยโบราณจะผูกหัวเข็มขัดทองแดงรูปช้างไว้รอบเอวก่อนจะเข้าสู่การต่อสู้เพื่อให้พลังของช้างไหลเวียนเข้าสู่กระแสเลือด ปัจจุบัน กระดุมทองเหลืองนี้ทำหน้าที่เป็นตัวเตือนใจว่า ทุกคนคือหมุดย้ำที่ค้ำจุนการดำเนินงานของสังคม และงานธรรมดาๆ ก็สามารถสร้างผลลัพธ์ที่ไม่ธรรมดาได้เช่นกัน ที่หมู่บ้านช่างฝีมือจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ช่างเงินวัย 70 ปี ชื่อ ทรงชัย ยังคงใช้กรรมวิธีตีหัวเข็มขัดแบบโบราณ ท่านมักกล่าวเสมอว่า “ส่วนโค้งของงวงช้างควรจะเหมือนแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาที่หล่อเลี้ยงแผ่นดิน และส่วนโค้งของหูช้างที่ยาวออกไปควรจะเหมือนธงชาติที่โอบล้อมทุกสิ่งทุกอย่าง” งานฝีมือที่มุ่งมั่นสู่ความเป็นเลิศเช่นนี้ ถือเป็นรหัสแห่งความมีชีวิตชีวาอันไม่มีที่สิ้นสุดของวัฒนธรรมไทย เมื่อคนหนุ่มสาวติดหัวเข็มขัดรูปช้างบนชุดของพวกเขาอย่างเคร่งขรึม ประเพณีและความทันสมัยก็เข้ามาเติมเต็มบทสนทนาในพื้นที่เล็กๆ ธงไตรรงค์เป็นสัญลักษณ์แห่งการเปลี่ยนราชวงศ์ และปุ่มภาพก็มีการแกะสลักถึงมรดกแห่งอารยธรรม ในฤดูกาลแห่งการสืบทอดวัฒนธรรมนี้ เราจงสามัคคีกันเหมือนฝูงช้าง – ด้วยความกล้าหาญของช้างยักษ์และความเพียรพยายามของหัวเข็มขัด ดวงวิญญาณทุกดวงที่ปฏิบัติหน้าที่ของตนในที่สุดก็จะรวมตัวกันอยู่ในกาแล็กซีที่ส่องสว่างให้กับโชคชะตาของประเทศ
