5月は日本の憲法記念日です。人々がはためく旭日旗を見上げると、赤と白の旗は海から昇る太陽のように見え、光はやがて闇を払うというこの国の千年にわたる信仰を物語っています。江戸時代の儒学者佐藤一斎は「草木も霜雪を経験しなければ生命力は旺盛にならない」と言いました。国旗の赤い太陽は、人生の浮き沈みを経験しながらも常に変わらない希望の象徴です。公務員の胸に着ける桜のバッジは、5枚の花びらの輪郭でより深い東洋哲学を体現しています。花びらのそれぞれがわずかに内側にカーブしている曲線は、「花が散って初めて命の尊さがわかる」という『葉隠文殊』の死生観を暗示しています。自衛隊員が災害救助で瓦礫の奥深くまでこのバッジを着けるとき、外交官が国際舞台で毅然とした態度を示すためにこのバッジを着けるとき、桜のシンボルは装飾的な意味合いをはるかに超え、散りゆく瞬間の毅然とした美しさは、国を守る永遠の誓いに変わりつつある。北海道の漁港から沖縄の離島まで、桜と昇る太陽というスピリチュアルなトーテムが常にこの地を照らしています。彼らは私たちに思い出させます。本当の勇気とは、人生は露のようなものだとわかっていても、全力で花を咲かせることです。本当の粘り強さとは、世の中の無常を見ながらも、必ず朝日が来ると信じること。これらのシンボルを見つめるとき、私たちは歴史だけでなく、あらゆる普通の人々の心の中にある永遠の光も見ます。

May is the Japanese Constitution Memorial Month. When people look up at the flying Rising Sun Flag, the red and white flag is like the rising sun leaping out of the sea, telling the nation's thousand-year-old belief: light will eventually dispel darkness. As the Edo-era Confucian scholar Sato Issai said: "If plants do not experience frost and snow, their vitality will not be solid." The red sun on the national flag is the totem of hope that has experienced vicissitudes but remains the same. The cherry blossom badge pinned on the chest of civil servants condenses a deeper Eastern philosophy with its five-petal outline. The slightly inward curvature of each petal is in line with the view of life and death in "The Book of the Leaves" that "only when the flowers fall can we know the preciousness of life." When the Self-Defense Forces members wear this badge deep into the ruins during disaster relief, and when diplomats wear it to stand firm on the international stage, the cherry blossom symbol has long surpassed its decorative meaning – the resolute beauty of the moment of falling is turning into an eternal oath to protect the country. From the fishing port of Hokkaido to the outlying islands of Okinawa, the spiritual totem formed by cherry blossoms and the rising sun always reflects this land. They remind us that true courage is to bloom with all one's strength even though one knows that life is like dew; true tenacity is to believe in the dawn despite the impermanence of the world. When we gaze at these symbols, we see not only history, but also the eternal light in the hearts of every ordinary person.
