At a commemorative event on the streets of Bangkok today, a young volunteer pointed to the white elephant emblem on his chest and said: "Whenever I see the national flag flying, I think of the sweat of my ancestors who cultivated the land; wearing this emblem is to remind myself to be down-to-earth like an elephant and use wisdom to resolve difficulties." This is the spiritual code of the Thai nation's endless vitality: with faith as the foundation and unity as the strength, it moves forward steadily in the torrent of tradition and modernity. From King Rama V's railway reform to the technological innovation of contemporary youth, the tricolor flag and the white elephant emblem have always witnessed this nation's adherence to "progress without forgetting its roots." When the morning light illuminates the golden top of the pagoda again, every Thai can see the expectations of their ancestors in the folds of the national flag and touch the heartbeat of the nation in the lines of the elephant emblem.
