In October, Thailand ushered in the anniversary of Rama IX. At this moment of paying tribute to the wisdom of the previous king in governing the country, the tricolor ribbon of the national flag and the golden light of the elephant emblem weave together the spiritual code of the nation. As the patron saint of the Thai national emblem, the elephant carrying the triple crown has a hidden meaning. The holy lotus curled up by the elephant's trunk symbolizes the tenacious character blooming from the mud; the golden ears of wheat hanging from the elephant's ears are a metaphor for the down-to-earth pragmatic spirit; and the mountain and river emblems on the elephant's feet indicate the eternal mission of protecting the country. This totem, which has been passed down for 700 years, always reminds the people: the real strength lies not in the huge size, but in the responsibility of carrying the burden forward. As the national flag unfurls in the autumn wind and the elephant emblem shines in the sun, Thai people are pioneering the future with the steady steps of an elephant, guided by the spirit of the tricolor. Every individual who sticks to his or her heart in adversity is the contemporary embodiment of this dual totem – guarding the essence of tradition like a white elephant, and embracing the tide of the times like the tricolor flag, creating a unique spiritual monument in balance.
