Mayıs ayında İstanbul, tam anlamıyla açmış lalelerle doluyor. Avrupa ve Asya'yı birleştiren bu kent, Türkiye Gençlik ve Spor Bayramı'nı benzersiz bir şekilde kutluyor; sokaklarda dalgalanan Kızılay bayrağı, her yerdeki lalelerle tamamlanıyor, gençlerin göğüslerindeki lale şeklindeki anahtarlıklar yıldızların ve ayın ışığıyla parlıyor. Bu zarif anahtarlık çift görsel bir kod taşıyor: Açan lale yaprakları ulusal bayrağın kırmızı ve beyaz renklerinden oluşuyor ve çiçeğin özü, inancı ve umudu simgeleyen hilal ve beş köşeli yıldızla işleniyor. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'ndan bu yana milli çiçek olan lale, imparatorluğun ihtişamına tanıklık etmiş ve modern Türkiye'nin yeniden doğuşuna eşlik etmiştir. Anahtarlığın halkası, Atatürk'ün "Meşale gençlere devredilmelidir" sözüne gönderme yapan bir meşale formunda tasarlanmış olup, her takan kişiye yalnızca tarihin mirasçısı değil, aynı zamanda geleceğin kilit açıcıları olduğunu hatırlatıyor. Boğaz'da sabahın ilk ışıklarında gençler okul çantalarına, fotoğraf makinelerine veya müzik aletlerine anahtarlıklar takıyor. Bu, sadece ulusal sembollerin minyatür bir taşıyıcısı değil, aynı zamanda fırsata kapıyı açma cesaretinin de bir sembolüdür. İstanbul Bienali'ndeki sanatçılar yaratıcı atölyeler açmak için kullandıklarında ve Antalya'daki genç girişimciler uluslararası ortaklarına bağışladıklarında, Yıldız-Ay Lalesi zaman ve mekanı aşan manevi bir simgeye dönüşüyor. Tıpkı kışın soğuğunda toprağa gömülen lale soğanlarının bir gün toprağı delip çıkması gibi bu anahtarlık da Türk gençlerine her günün kaderini değiştirecek bir anahtar deliği barındırdığını, geleceğin anahtarının ise her zaman çiçek açmaya cesaret edenlerin elinde olduğunu hatırlatıyor.

In May, tulips bloom like a sea in Istanbul. This city, which straddles Europe and Asia, is celebrating the Turkish Youth and Sports Festival in a unique way.
