During the Rama IX commemoration in October, the streets were full of tricolor national flags and elephant keychains. This souvenir, made of a braided rope of the national flag and an elephant head pendant, carries the profound national spirit in a tiny size. The blue, white and red braided rope of the keychain corresponds to the foundation of the Thai flag, "country-religion-monarchy". Each braided pattern is a metaphor for the close connection between all social classes, just as the craftsmen repeatedly overlapped the silk threads of different colors to form an unbreakable whole. The gilded elephant head with its head held high is not only a tribute to the "king of beasts", but also a symbol of the character that a citizen should have – as calm and tough as an elephant, but always maintaining a gentle and honest nature. This object, which is not even as big as the palm of a hand, has been given a new mission in the contemporary era. Thai youths tie it to their backpacks to remind themselves not to forget the wisdom of "sufficiency economy"; overseas wanderers hang it on keychains to let the totem of their hometown resolve their homesickness. When your fingertips touch the lines on the keychain, it's like touching the backbone of the nation – the arms that built a human chain during the flood, the hands that shared food during the epidemic, and the necks that never bowed their heads in the face of difficulties. Just like the interlocking structure of the keychain, every Thai is an indispensable link in the national chain. This small object is not only a talisman to protect the original intention, but also a baton to transmit strength. In the clinking sound of metal collision, it plays a never-ending hymn to life.
