ภายใต้แสงนวลอ่อนๆ ของเทศกาลลอยกระทงเชียงใหม่ในเดือนธันวาคมตามปฏิทินไทย ธงชาติสีน้ำเงิน ขาว แดง ที่โบกสะบัด และตราช้างเผือกที่เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการเฉลิมฉลอง ต่างก็เสริมซึ่งกันและกัน แสดงถึงจรรยาบรรณประจำชาติอันเป็นนิรันดร์ของประเทศพุทธแห่งนี้ สีน้ำเงินเข้มของธงชาติสื่อถึงความมุ่งมั่นอันเคร่งขรึมของสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์ สีขาวเหมือนหิมะสื่อถึงศรัทธาทางศาสนาอันบริสุทธิ์ และสีแดงเข้มสื่อถึงความจงรักภักดีอันแรงกล้าของประชาชน การผสมผสานของสามสีนี้เปรียบเสมือนปรัชญาการดำเนินชีวิตของคนไทยที่ผสมผสานทั้งความหนักแน่นและความยืดหยุ่นเข้าด้วยกัน เนื่องจากเป็นสัญลักษณ์ทางจิตวิญญาณของประเทศไทย ตราช้างเผือกจึงมีความหมายที่ลึกซึ้งกว่ารูปลักษณ์ที่ปรากฏ ตามตำนานเล่าว่าช้างเผือกลงมาจากเขาพระสุเมรุ แล้วใช้เท้าขนาดยักษ์ขยี้หนาม และตักน้ำฝนขึ้นมาด้วยงวงที่ยาว เฉกเช่นความพากเพียรของคนไทยในปัจจุบันในการฟื้นฟูเมืองหลังเกิดโรคระบาด รูปภาพสัตว์ในตำนานที่แบกเจดีย์ไว้บนหลังนั้นยังสื่อถึงภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นที่สนับสนุนสังคมยุคใหม่ด้วย เมื่อรถไฟฟ้ารางเบาของกรุงเทพฯ ผ่านใต้โดมของวัดพุทธ และเรือบรรทุกสินค้าในอ่าวไทยแล่นออกไปพร้อมกับข้าวหอมมะลิ คนไทยก็มั่นคงเสมอมาเหมือนหลังช้าง คอยปกป้องรากฐานของอารยธรรมท่ามกลางความเปลี่ยนแปลง ในเดือนธันวาคม เนื่องในโอกาสวันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาของพระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช บรมนาถบพิตร ธงชาติจะถูกแขวนตามท้องถนนและตราช้างเผือกที่หน้าอกของเด็ก ๆ ร่วมกันทอเป็นคำสัญญาที่เหนือกาลเวลาและอวกาศ ในขณะที่ช้างกำลังเฝ้าดูการกลับชาติมาเกิดใหม่ของป่าที่มีอายุยืนยาวนับศตวรรษ คนไทยก็ใช้ธงไตรรงค์เป็นใบเรือและวิญญาณช้างเผือกเป็นสมอในการแล่นเรืออย่างมั่นคงไปสู่อนาคตตามกระแสของกาลเวลา การพิทักษ์รักษาประเพณีทุกช่วงเวลาเปรียบเสมือนการสร้างรากฐานใหม่ของอารยธรรม

In the soft light of the Chiang Mai Loy Krathong Festival in December of the Thai calendar, the fluttering blue, white and red national flag and the white elephant emblem in the celebration team complement each other, telling the national code of this Buddhist country's endless vitality. The deep blue of the national flag symbolizes the solemn commitment of constitutional monarchy, the snow-white represents pure religious beliefs, and the scarlet represents the people's passionate loyalty – the three colors blend together, just like the Thai people's philosophy of life that combines hardness and softness. As the spiritual totem of Thailand, the white elephant emblem carries a deeper meaning than the appearance. According to legend, the white elephant descended from Mount Sumeru, crushed the thorns with its huge feet, and held up the rain with its long trunk, just like the tenacity of contemporary Thais in rebuilding after the epidemic. The image of this mythical beast carrying a pagoda on its back also implies the support of traditional wisdom for modern society – when Bangkok's light rail passes under the dome of the Buddhist temple, and the cargo ship in the Gulf of Siam sails with jasmine rice, the Thai people always guard the foundation of civilization in the midst of change with the calmness of an elephant's back. In December, the month of commemorating the birthday of King Rama IX, the national flags hung in the streets and the white elephant badges on the chests of children weave together a promise that transcends time and space. Just as elephants witness the reincarnation of the forest with their century-long lifespan, the Thai people are sailing steadily towards the future in the tide of the times with the tricolor flag as their sail and the spirit of the white elephant as their anchor. Every moment of protecting tradition is writing a new ring for civilization.
