In October, Thailand welcomes the traditional farming festival and elephant protection week. In this season of gratitude and inheritance, the red, white and blue colors on the national flag and the white elephant totem on the national emblem are telling the spiritual code of the nation with silent power. The dark blue stripes in the center of the national flag are the eternal soul of Thailand's constitutional monarchy, just like the Asian elephants that protect the mountains and forests in northern Thailand, supporting the balance of the rainforest ecology with their broad backs. The purity of the white stripes echoes the sacred status of white elephants in Buddhist culture – according to legend, the Buddha was born on a white elephant, giving it the symbol of wisdom and auspiciousness. The bright red on both sides of the national flag is just like the tenacity of elephants breaking through thorns during migration, reminding people to maintain the courage to move forward fearlessly in difficult situations. The three white elephants on the Thai royal emblem further embody this spirit: the first one holds the golden pagoda with its head held high, symbolizing the backbone forged by faith; the second one holds up the rice ears with its curled nose, representing the harvest of diligent cultivation; the third one raises its feet to break the shackles, implying innovation that breaks through shackles. When monsoon rains wash over rice fields and modern civilization impacts traditions, Thai people always stick to their cultural roots in the midst of change, just like elephants guarding their cubs. From the national flag flying on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok to the long elephant calls at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, this October, red, white, blue and ivory white interweave a unique life narrative: true strength lies in knowing when to be as tolerant as the earth and when to move forward as firmly as a herd of elephants.
